The new Tenant

The other day, Mooseboy and I were out freshening up the licks. I'm running only two licks this year, one over by the campground and the other by the garbage dump. The others can probably go a year. Anyhow, we had an 80 lb sack of rock salt that I decided to split between the two lick sites. Dennis was due to arrive in a day or so, and I wanted to get the salt in the ground before the rains hit.

Both lick sites were well used. I was surprised to find a bit of dairy mineral still left untouched. I figured out a long time ago that the deer didn't take to this stuff, but it's good for them. Here was a little pile of mineral that I hadn't worked into the lick just sitting on top of the ground, surrounded by paw prints. They're like little kids trying to pick through the succotash, eating the corn and leaving the lima beans. I stirred it all up good in both sites and dumped 40 pounds of rock salt at each site before covering it back over.

On the way to the stand site at the garbage dump we pushed up a large, healthy-looking fawn. She hauled out of there in a hurry, making for Yellow Willow Creek. The patch she came from was the same that had held the two does I'd met up with back in October.
See Muzzleloader Doe . I couldn't help but remember her mom and grandma. It looks like Sissy found herself a stud after all. My guess it's the big brute that probably still haunts the Saddle.

Ah, well. Life goes on doesn't it?
