Waiting for the Opener

It’s getting close. Opening Day is getting real close. Saturday morning. I'll try and pull out of work early on Friday. Girlfriend is going down early to open up.

There is not much else to do except sit and wait. I’ve been obcessing on the weather report. It looks like lows in the mid-twenties. That’s about as cold as it gets for an opener in Kentucky. I’m hoping #2 Son can hack it. It should be good weather overall, just a bit colder than we’re used to.

I’ve been tidying up the loading bench and the cleaning bench. I caught myself re-opening the gun cases just to check. I topped off the travel bottles of bore cleaner and oil and put some more cleaning patches in the bag.

I stopped twice on the road this week to watch deer in fields.

I checked the weather again. It’s still looking like lows in the mid-twenties. Maybe I should get the freezer suit out, just in case. Maybe I’ll stop by Walmart and pick up an extra set of thermals.

I think about what it will be like on Monday morning, with the let down and all. Hopefully I’ll have a bunch of pictures of something decent. Hopefully #2 will have gotten a nice one. Maybe it will be like last year, and all the serious hunting will be over before next Monday. Then what?

Weather.com just adjusted the Friday night low down another degree. Maybe this is just a glitch in the model. It’s never 23 in mid-November. Maybe it will change next hour.
